Good Afternoon everyone!
Its been an while since my last post and ages since my last "Late night with Pman" post.
Today is Valentines Day and its a day where people express their emotions for each other by means of gifts. It doesn't have to be between lovers, it can be between friends and family, as love comes in all forms.
Where did this tradition or culture originate from?
Its been around for years! Hundreds actually!
One version of its history states that the title Valentine was given to Christian martyrs.
Alright? SO what does this have to do with expressing love to each other?
In a very short and casual way of saying this,
A ruler in this european region had condemned all men to stay single as he wanted to grow an army and his theory was that married men made crappy soldiers. Fair enough. But a priest went against this rule and went and married men to their women secretly anyway. When the ruler found out, he had him arrested and set to be executed.
Now it gets to the interesting part.
While in jail, he befriended and fell in love with the daughter of the jailer and the day before he was to be executed, he wrote a letter in which he expressed his feeling to her and had ended the letter by writing,
- From your valentine
Thats a version of the story which I have obtained from a very "reliable" source.
I'm sure there are other versions and I do hope to hear those versions.
Personally I feel that Valentines Day was a very well thought idea or tradition and though some people like it obviously due to its chocolate red rose combinations. It actually encourages people to be together, be it lovers, friends or family even though it is for a day.
